Our vision is to restore balance.

Our mission is to find your best solution using our network, knowledge and innovative approach.

Forest Carbon was founded in 2006 with the twin ambitions of increasing woodland cover in the UK and enabling businesses give back to local nature restoration projects. Since then, we have gone on to build strong partnerships with landowners, companies and individuals, connecting private sector investment to fund the planting of over 13 million trees, primarily in the UK.  Critical to this was the development of certification standards - the Woodland Carbon Code and the Peatland Code - which underpin the integrity of the UK carbon market.

A recent paper that McKinsey and the World Economic Forum co-produced argued what we have been saying for 15 years: “there is no clear path to deliver climate mitigation without investing in nature”. We do not believe our work is the silver bullet solution, we must decarbonise first and foremost, but we can also support the regeneration of our local environment for communities, climate resilience and increased biodiversity. Our vision is to restore balance by harnessing the power of businesses to regenerate nature and restore balance for future generations to enjoy.

It isn’t just forests that we are interested in. Since 2017 we have been helping to finance peatland restoration projects, an extensive habitat covering 10% of UK land mass with an estimated 80% of it degraded. The most intensive carbon stores on land, these ecosystems were once drawing down carbon, but they are now emitting an estimated 23 million tonnes of CO2 per year. Our team are also working across farm soil carbon, agroforestry, hedgerows, salt marsh and other blue carbon (marine) environments.
